My Review:

It was great to return to this series and continue watching the friendship and general love of BL between Urara and Ichinoi, especially after the way the first volume ended.

We are immediately plunged into the chaos of the doujinshi. While I have never been to a con, I have seen videos of them and that was perfectly displayed here. The bustling crowds, the vendors and artists, and the general atmosphere. It felt like I was there.

Watching these two meet their favorite mangaka was fantastic. The feeling of meeting someone you admire, especially for the first time, is magical. Ichinoi’s encouragement to her was hilarious.

The way the pages from the manga Ichinoi and Urara are reading blend into the story is wonderful. While it would be nice to see more of that particular story, I do like the bits we get to see and it makes the reader understand even more why these two love this story so much.

We get to see some recurring characters and two in particular discover Ichinoi and Urara’s BL manga and the reactions were surprising – especially in the lack of reaction. I had expected at least one of them to say something.

Watching Ichinoi and Urara hang out regularly at Ichinoi’s house has become a staple of this series and is one of my favorite parts. Their age difference doesn’t matter one bit, they are simply two friends enjoying each other’s company and reading manga together.

It’s clear that Ichinoi has become a mentor to Urara, offering advice and planting seeds of ideas for her. However, the same could be said about Urara inspiring Ichinoi. They were truly meant to find each other and become friends.

I loved seeing how Urara takes Ichinoi’s idea to heart and considers it, even though she hasn’t fully embraced it yet. Time will tell if she does in fact pursue the idea and I hope she does.

One nice addition to this volume has been getting to see the mangaka Komeda-san, along with her assistant, working on the manga. Getting these little snippets of a mangaka’s work is great and it adds something special to the story.

Overall, I loved this book. It has a good mix of activities that Urara and Ichinoi get up to, more character development including some of the side characters, and hints of what may come in the future. I cannot wait to read the next volume, which is already on my TBR.

I hope you enjoyed my review of BL Metamorphosis Vol 2. Have you read this book?
