December 2023 Sakuraco

Matcha Genmaicha Tea

This is a tea I have tried before and liked it. I think this is one I could drink semi-regularly.

Milk Mochi

Anything milk-flavored from Hokkaido is always delicious. Though it didn’t taste like milk, there was a slight caramel flavor to this mochi which was delicious.

Milk & Chocolate Cookie

This cookie was quite good. I can’t say that I tasted the chocolate. However, the milk flavor came through strong and made it enjoyable.

I’ve had a few varieties of Baumkuchen in the past and enjoyed them, so I was excited to try this plain version. This cake was wonderfully soft and moist and was a perfect treat.

My only complaint is they cut the cake into pieces, which somewhat destroyed the fun of seeing the ring of layers that make up a Baumkuchen cake.

Hokkaido Adzuki Cake

Adzuki is hit or miss for me and this one was surprisingly good. It was just the right amount of adzuki with the cake complimenting it well.

Indigo Yuzen Dish

Each month, Sakuraco includes a Japanese tableware item. This month was a beautiful dish.

Hakodate Squid Senbei

This squid-shaped, squid-flavored senbei was interesting. I didn’t taste much squid-flavor but still enjoyed this one.

Fried Corn Snack

If it’s corn-flavored, I will probably love it and this snack was no exception. It was a simple treat but that’s what made it so enjoyable.

Yuzu Kaki no Tane

I was excited to try this one as I enjoy Yuzu-flavored snacks. However, I didn’t pay attention to it also being spicy.

This was okay but too spicy for my taste. My husband gave it a try and really liked it.

Camembert Cheese Arare

These cheese-filled snacks were fantastic. The flavor of the cheese paired perfectly with the arare cracker outside.

They were a bit on the rich side, so I would recommend eating them slowly.

Okinawan Salt Daifuku

The slight saltiness of the mochi went well with the sweetness of the red bean paste. A nice little treat for after a meal or with a cup of tea.

White Chocolate Fruit: Strawberry

This was fine. I like white chocolate and strawberries but in this combination, it’s merely alright.

Wasabi Pistachios

I’ve had these before and loved them, so I was excited to get to try them again. The wasabi kick is fantastic though it does mask the flavor of the pistachios.

Muscat Fruit Jelly

This grape-flavored jelly was good. Slightly sweet with a strong flavor. I only wish another was included.

Hokkaido Butter Cookie

I had high hopes for these butter cookies and they let me down. While good, I felt like the flavor was flat compared to other butter cookies I’ve had in the past.

I hope you enjoyed my review of the December 2023 Sakuraco. Have you tried Sakuraco?

  1. These are all so interesting! I gave up on trying to pronounce the names after the corn snack, but I enjoyed reading this post. It would have been nice to know some of the ingredients in the ones I couldn’t pronounce.

    1. Author

Thank you. The names can be difficult if you aren’t familiar with the Japanese language. They do list the ingredients in the booklet that comes in the box.
