It’s Monday! What Are You Reading? #27

It’s Monday! What are you Reading? is a meme hosted by Sheila at Book Journeys. It is a great way to recap what you read and/or reviewed the previous week and to plan out your reading and reviews for the upcoming week. It’s also a great chance to see what others are reading right now…who knows, you might discover that next “must read” book!

Reviews Posted Last Week:
The Floating Castle by Craig Mills
Ghost Planet by Sharon Fisher

I had a fairly good reading week last week. With the onset of spring weather I found that I was outside more, busy cleaning the house and doing a number of other activities that kept me from reading. I would have liked to have read more but I’m happy with all the work that got done around the house so I can’t complain. Even with all that going on I did manage to get through a full four books, with two others partially read, so I suppose I actually did more reading that I figured I would considering all of the other things going on.

What I Read Last Week:

I was looking for a horror novel that would scare the crap out of me. What I really got was a well written story that held no scare appeal for me but I enjoyed nonetheless. I’m slightly disappointed with this one because I had been told it would quite literally scare the crap out of me, but it was enjoyable because of the way it was written and it was a fairly interesting story.

I have been looking to read some steampunk for a while and thanks to pulling this one out of my book jar I made time to read it. I can’t say that I was overly impressed with the story but it was a fairly quick read and good enough that I will read the others in the series once they come out. I’ll be posting a full review for this soon.

This book has been on my to read list for some time. Actually I’ve wanted to read it since watching the movie and realizing it was the start of a series. It’s been sitting on my shelf for some time now and since I have been trying to clear out those books I decided to pick this one up finally. Since I saw the movie first there wasn’t much to discover about the story in the book, however it has given the the opportunity to read the other three books in the series which I know nothing about and it’s one more book off of my list. I may post a review of this one in the future.

After finishing with Appaloosa I decided to go ahead and start working on the next book in the series, Resolution. Much like the previous book this one is a quick read and continues to the story of Virgil Cole and Everett Hitch. There was a decent amount of action in this book and much like Appaloosa Virgil and Everett are heroes in the end. I look forward to reading the remaining books in the series and seeing what other towns the pair come to the rescue of.

What I Plan To Read This Week:

Though it is a shorter book I plan to get through this one at some point in the upcoming week. This has been something I have wanted to read for some time and it is on my list of books to try to read during the Bout of Book read-a-thon this week. I’m hoping this will be good but either way it’s a book I can read and cross off of my long awaited reads list.

I may enjoy the TV show more than the books but I can’t deny that these are quick and fun reads. The mystery isn’t that hard to solve, at least in some of the other books they weren’t, but it’s still fun to see exactly how the murder is solved and let’s face it Jessica Fletcher is such a great character it’s hard not to enjoy these books.

What have you read recently? Were they as good as you had hoped or just alright? What books do you plan to read this week?
