July 2023 Sakuraco – Heritage of Nikko

Having first tried Sakuraco in June 2023, I was excited to continue my subscription in July to experience more traditional Japanese snacks. The theme of the July 2023 Sakuraco is Heritage of Nikko. Like many areas of Japan, Nikko has a rich history and contains many tourist attractions, festivals, and its own unique snacks associated with it.

July 2023 Sakuraco

Hinohikari Senbei

This super crunchy senbei had a nice soy sauce flavor to it, making it the perfect snack. I was glad to see two of these included in this month’s box, as I really enjoyed them.

Seven Flavor Senbei

I have a similar snack in the June 2023 Sakuraco box, so I was really looking forward to this one. I love the variety of flavors in this snack.

88th Night Shincha

I am not big on tea, but I always make sure to try the tea that is included in subscription boxes. This one was alright.

Kuzukiri

I wasn’t sure what to expect with this snack. Once it was chilled, as per the instructions, I gave it a try. It was certainly different but also quite refreshing. The honey flavor mixed with the chewy texture made for an interesting experience.

Chigiri Kusamochi

I gave this snack to my husband to try. I’m not a fan of black sesame or kinako, so I knew I wouldn’t like it. He really enjoyed this flavor combination and thought they were delicious.

Waka Ayu Marshmallow

The most unique part of this treat was its shape. It’s not often you see fish-shaped marshmallows. The flavor was nothing special, after all, it’s just a marshmallow.

Nikko Rusk

I really liked this treat. It was sweet and crunchy, with a hint of milkiness. I do wish there was another package of them, I enjoyed it that much.

Sesame Anko Donuts

I don’t normally try any snacks with black sesame, because I really don’t like the flavor, but I couldn’t resist taking a bit of these little donuts. I can’t say I loved them, but they were okay. Without the sesame seeds, I feel like I would have enjoyed them more.

Skyberry Waffle Cookie

This strawberry-flavored treat was fantastic. Strawberries from Japan have a wonderful flavor and it pairs well with the crunchy waffle cookie.

Sesame Tetra

Another snack I gave to my husband. He loved these little sesame black snacks.

Thousand Samurai Procession Manju

This treat was okay. White bean paste can be hit or miss with me and this one was a bit of a miss. Even so, I’m glad I was able to try such an important snack.

Salt & Pepper Yuba Chips

Made from the film formed from heated soy milk, these little chip-like snacks were pretty good. They were quite salty, but otherwise, I liked them quite a bit.

Soy Sauce Okogemeshi

A combination of rice and soy sauce is what you get in this cracker-like snack. It’s the perfect mix of flavors and textures. I can certainly see why this one is popular.

Patchwork Furoshiki

Each month, Sakuraco includes a Japanese item in its box. This month, it was a furoshiki – a traditional wrapping cloth.

Not only is it beautiful, I ended up getting a purple Furoshiki (purple is my favorite color) but it’s the perfect size for small gifts or to simply display.

I hope you enjoyed my review of the July 2023 Sakuraco. Have you tried Sakuraco?
