NaNoWriMo 2020 week 2 update

The second week of NaNoWriMo has come to an end. This 30-day long writing challenge is an excellent way for writers to focus on getting their stories down. A tight deadline is just what a lot of us writers need to truly transform that idea we have floating around into a rough draft that will hopefully one day turn into a fully polished novel. By the end of the second week, the word count of your novel should be at 21671 words. If you are behind, don’t worry. Just keep writing and you will get there. If you are ahead, that’s fantastic! This NaNoWriMo 2020 week 2 update will go over how I have done with my writing so far.

Curious about how the first week went? Check out my week 1 update.

NaNoWriMo 2020 week 2 update

Day 7

This was a day when I didn’t feel like writing. I attempted to in the morning, but all I could do was stare at the screen. The afternoon saw much of the same thing and as the evening rolling in, I thought this would be my first zero word day. Then it happened. I sat down and in what felt like no time at all wrote 4183 words.

Day 8

This was another day that I struggled to write. My mind kept wandering and even when I tried to focus the words just weren’t coming easily. To fill in the time while I waited for my writing muse to wake up, I got a lot of work done around the house. Eventually, I was able to sit down and write 1403 words.

Day 9

This day proved to be a challenge. It was absolutely gorgeous out, which is rare for November, so I managed to spend a decent amount of time outside. Then chores filled a good chunk of the day and when I thought about writing, something came up and send my mental health into a nosedive. I had to take some time off and just focus on myself for a few hours. In the evening, when I was feeling a bit better, I was able to focus enough to write 1452 words.

Day 10

Another busy day. I had a lot going on that initially made me push writing to the backburner. Luckily, I tend to do my best writing in the evening anyway, so I was able to take care of all of those other tasks in the first half of the day. When the evening rolled around, I was ready to write. Despite not doing word sprints this day, I was able to write 3325 words.

Day 11

This was one of those days that felt like I did nothing but when I looked back on it, it was a highly productive day. Cleaning, blog work, blog brainstorming, reading, and I even found time to play World of Warcraft. I may have only written 1831 words but considering everything else that I managed to get done, I will call this a very successful day.

Day 12

I will admit, I spent the vast majority of this day playing through the pre-launch content in World of Warcraft. But I squeezed in bits of writing here and there and over the course of the day managed 1657 words.

Day 13

Another day where I mostly picked away at writing and yet the words seemed to add up fairly quickly. I was able to write 1954 words this day.

This brings my total word count to 33938. Which I am obviously really happy about. This has me on track to finish by the 22nd, which is my goal for this year.

I hope you enjoyed my NaNoWriMo 2020 week 2 update. Are you participating this year? How has your writing been going?

  1. Sounds like you’re doing great with your goal for NaNoWriMo! Good luck with your writing for the rest of the month!

    1. Thank you. I’m really happy with my progress so far, even though I have barely scratched the surface of my novel idea.

  2. I’m always in awe of you doing NaNoWriMo, the discipline required is amazing. Looking at your progress to date, you must be over the moon, it’s fantastic. Fingers crossed you hit your target – and still find time to play plenty of World of Warcraft! 🙂

    1. Thank you. After years of participating it certainly gets easier to knock out such a big word count in such a short time. I am so happy with how I have done so far. Can’t wait to dive into the new World of Warcraft expansion.
