New-to-Me Authors I Discovered in 2023

Annie Bellet

A friend of mine sent me the first omnibus of the Level Grind series a couple of years ago and I finally got around to reading it in 2023. I really enjoyed Bellet’s writing style and the way the side characters were just as important to the story as the main character.

This is an author I need to read more of in the near future, especially to finish this series.

Kenjiro Hata

After watching the first season of Tonikawa (aka Fly Me To The Moon) I decided to check out the manga series because I needed more of the couple and their story. Kenjiro certainly has a way of creating a cute and addicting story.

Gido Amagakure

I picked up A Galaxy Next Door on a whim and I’m glad I did. Gido weaves a very interesting story about an alien princess and a struggling mangaka and the blossoming relationship between them.

This is a nice short series, 6 volumes in total, so it’s a great quick read.

Akumi Agitogi

I picked up My Happy Marriage after seeing there was an anime adaptation coming. Akumi Agitogi has a wonderful writing style and the story really grabbed me from page one.

I look forward to continuing this series and checking out anything else they write in the future.

Signe Pike

I picked up The Lost Queen on a whim and I was blown away by the story that Signe Pike had created. It is a

Travis Baldree

Most people are familiar with Legends & Lattes at this point and I certainly fell to the pressure of reading this cozy fantasy. While I enjoyed the book and Baldree’s writing, I felt it fell a bit flat compared to he praise yet I’m still glad I checked it out.

Mizuki Tsujimura

After seeing the trailer for the Lonely Castle In The Mirror anime, I knew I had to check out the novel that inspired it. This story was strange and addictive. I will be looking to read more of her work in the future.

Kyouka Izumi

I’m always drawn to books with book-loving characters, so The Savior’s Book Cafe Story In Another World caught my attention. The author did a great job of crafting an isekai story with bookish main characters, a strong magical presence, and plenty of cozy vibes.

This series is only 5 books long but I would consider it a must-read.

A.J. Calvin

I have been making an effort to read more authors I follow on Twitter and Exile by A.J. Calvin hit my radar and I’m glad it did. This was a great start to a fantasy series that I need to read more of. Calvin’s writing really sucked me into the story right from page one.

Bisco Hatori

I watched the anime of Ouran High School Host Club a few years back and really enjoyed it. So, it made sense to check out the manga. Bisco Hatori certainly has created a zany cast of characters that are thrown into the strangest of situations time and time again.

I hope you enjoyed seeing the New-to-Me Authors I Discovered in 2023. What new authors did you discover last year?

I just watched the anime and it’s so good! It covers the first 2 light novels of the story, which is perfect, since that’s how far I got into the book series. Definitely watch it soon.

    1. Author

Thank you. I’m always drawn in by pretty covers, it’s half of the reason why I pick up the book I do. It’s a pretty popular book still and with the recent release of the sequel I can see why its till getting talked about. Thank you.

  11. I just read Legends and Lattes a couple of days ago! I really enjoyed it, but it didn’t feel very fantasy-ish to me. That’s fine for me as I’m not a fantasy reader, but I can imagine that part not being developed enough for some readers. What part of it fell flat for you?

    1. Author

I’m glad to hear you enjoyed it. I think where it fell flat was its lack of fantasy-ness and its repetitive ways. The base of the story was enjoyable at least.
