October was another sort of strange month. We had really great weather for nearly the whole month, which was nice, but weird to be out and about with just a t-shirt on most days. Usually October is sweater weather if not also coat weather. We spent some time cleaning up the yard, putting everything away, reorganizing the shed and under deck storage to make sure any winter items were easy to access. Because of the gorgeous weather I spent a lot of time outside, taking Penny for walks and just enjoying the unseasonably nice weather.

We went to the city for a pre-winter shopping trip. I feel like we have been getting ready for a couple months now, but honestly that is the case almost every year. So we spent way too much money, but that’s what happens when you do Christmas shopping along with more winter stock up supplies. It was a very long day, which happens when you spend 8 hours total driving and about 4 hours shopping.

Then on October 24 everything changed. The previous day was another gorgeous, unseasonably warm day and then we found out that a winter storm was headed out way. So after dinner, we got busy harvesting the carrots, which were the last thing left in the garden. It took us two hours to get it all done, but we got about 35 pounds of carrots, which is awesome. Tuesday we woke up to heavy rain, which shifted a couple hours later to snow and then it snowed heavily all day. We got around 6-8 inches of snow that day and it was nasty. We also ended up losing power for about four hours during the storm. Since then it has been cold and snowy every day, which means winter is here to stay. We did have to shovel snow once, as we got several more inches Friday night, so Saturday we got out there and cleared the driveway and deck.

I ended up watching a lot of TV and movies over the month. Honestly, there are too many to list, so if you are interested in knowing what I watched then you can check out my Monday posts.

Finally, on the last day of the month, we not only had Halloween, so lots of trick or treating that night, but I also finally got my butt into gear and worked a bit on my NaNoWriMo prep. I didn’t get much done prep wise for my writing, but something is better than nothing.
