Top Ten Tuesday: Reading Goals I Still Want to Accomplish Before the End of the Year

Top Ten Tuesday is a weekly bookish meme hosted by That Arty Reader Girl. Each week, we are given a bookish topic to discuss. This week’s theme is reading goals I still want to accomplish before the end of the year. Back in January, I shared my bookish goals for 2023. So, it’s time to see how I have been doing with them, which goals I will still be working on, and what ones I am dropping.

Reading Goals I Still Want to Accomplish Before the End of the Year

My Original Reading Goals for 2023

  1. Read my owned but unread books. I have been doing well with this one. Each month my large TBR shrinks just a bit. While I won’t get to all my unread books before the end of the year, I know I can put a decent dent into them.
  2. Clear out my Kindle TBR. I have done horribly with this so far. However, I have a number of these books on my Fall TBR, so I am sticking with this one.
  3. Clear out my audiobook TBR. Another goal I have slacked on. I do plan to continue to work on this and hopefully get through at least one of my audiobooks before the year ends.
  4. Use the library more. I’ve done pretty well with this. I plan to keep going with this, however, a lot of the books I want to read are on a long waitlist, so I’m not sure how many I will get to this year.
  5. Read authors I follow on Twitter. So far, I haven’t done the best with this. I’ve only read one book by an author I follow on Twitter. However, a few books are on my fall TBR so I’m sticking with this goal
  6. Write reviews within 72 hours of finishing the book. I have been failing hard on this one. However, I am sticking with it because I know I do much better at writing reviews if I can do it soon after finishing the book. Hopefully, I will do better with this in the final months of the year.
  7. Start using NetGalley again. Honestly, I am dropping this one. I have too many other books I want to get to this year of my own. But, I will be revisiting this one next year.

New Reading Goal for the Rest of the Year

  1. Continue my book-buying ban. This isn’t quite a reading goal, but I want to share it anyway. In September I started a book-buying ban and did well. The only books that arrived during the month were preorders. I want to continue this and limit the number of new books coming in.

I hope you enjoyed seeing the reading goals I still want to accomplish before the end of the year. What reading goals do you still have?

      Thank you.

  2. I also need to focus on reading books I own. I do find a lot of tempting books at the library though! Here is our Top Ten Tuesday. Thank you!

Reading your own books tends to be the biggest challenge but worth focusing on. Libraries are great to use.

  3. I’ve tried and mostly succeeded with a book-buying ban, but there are enough exceptions (I need this for class / This one is for a book challenge or series / etc) that I’ve still picked up a few this year. The 72 hr turnaround sounds like a good idea.

I would argue that any book needed for class doesn’t break a book-buying ban.

  4. I really need to focus on my Kindle TBR. I started this last month or the month before, for the first time in YEARS! So, I did clear out a few (both read and DNF). I think your goals are great, I am also on a book-buying ban, it’s been a few months since I bought a book!

Thank you. It’s easy to ignore a Kindle TBR because its mostly out of sight. Good job getting through some of yours. Good luck with your book buying ban.

  5. I’m impressed that you’re doing so well with reading your own books. That’s a goal I really need to not just make, but actually stick to. LOL. My shelves are overflowing with unread books and I just keep buying more. Ack! A book-buying ban might kill me, but I think I need one…

    Happy TTT!

Thank you. It’s been surprisingly easy to do, especially once you get started on it.

  6. Good luck with your goals! I’m so bad at writing reviews quickly after finishing the book. Maybe that should be my goal for next year.

Thank you. Writing reviews promptly is still something I am struggling with.

  7. Such great goals! The library is one of my favorite resources ever! And I’d also love to get better at writing reviews too, this is good inspiration to work on that!

      Thank you. Libraries are great.

  8. Reading authors I follow – This is a great goal that I am going to adopt.

    Great list!

Thank you. Glad I could inspire you.

  9. I hope you accomplish all your reading goals before the end of the year! That’s awesome!

      Thank you.

  10. I’ve been making a point of reading the books I already own (although I have bought some new ones too), I was definitely collecting books and not making time to read them. I have done really well with this and have actually read most of what has been on my book shelves. I like the idea of trying a book buying ban (and being strict about it) as I think it will really help me focus on what I have (and save a bit of money)!

Glad to hear you have had success in reading the books you own. Being strict with a book buying ban is the best way to do it, otherwise its hard to keep up with it.

  11. Good luck with all your goals! I should really read the books I have had on my shelves for a while, it is not a lot of them, but I just keep ignoring them, haha. Should get to them~

Thank you. It’s definitely worth focusing on those unread books you own.
