September 2023 Bokksu – Luminous Tokyo

Petit: Rich Black Sesame Cake

This snack went straight to my husband. He loves anything black sesame whereas I can’t stand the flavor. He really enjoyed these.

Chocolate Azuki Beans: Uji Matcha

I’ve had these previously in the November 2019 Bokksu. Back then, I had really enjoyed them, however, this time around I wasn’t a big fan.

Tokyo Chocolate Waffle Sand Cookie

I loved this cookie. The chocolate paired well with the sand cookie. I can see why it’s so popular in Tokyo.

Chocolate Banana Langue De Chat

I’ve had this snack before in the May 2022 Bokksu. I’m not the biggest fan of this flavor combination.

Tokyo Pancake Langue De Chat

I’m not normally much of a maple syrup fan (I know, I’m a terrible Canadian) but this was surprisingly delicious.

Salted Daifuku Mochi

I always look forward to mochi. This one was interesting. I quite enjoyed the flavor though it was a bit on the salty side. Yet, once I had eaten one I found myself craving the second one.

Jouisobe Okoshi: Sugar

A cube of rice and sugar, what’s not to like? This was almost like a crunchy Rice Krispie Square except there was no marshmallow and had an extra sweetness to it.

Abare-Ume Potato Chips

I saved these ones for last because I figured I would really enjoy them. This was a great decision because I absolutely loved these chips. The sourness of the plum, along with the salt and shiso (a Japanese herb) made for a fantastic combination.

They were reminiscent of salt and vinegar chips but had a different flavor profile thanks to the plum and herb. This was one of my favorite items this month.

Marosh: Mikan Soda

I wasn’t sure what to think of these at first but after a couple of them, I was addicted. The mikan flavor with a hint of sourness was great.

Mini Curry-Bread Senbei

Curry bread is something I want to try if I ever get the chance to visit Japan. Until then, I was happy to try these curry bread-flavored senbei. They had great flavor and a nice crunch. I loved these.

Senbei: Irodori Tsudoi

I always enjoy these mixed flavor senbei. The variety of flavors in them makes it the perfect snack.

Hana Okaki Rice Cracker

There is something satisfying about the simplicity of these crackers. With a nice crunch and the soy sauce flavor, these were great. I’m glad there were two of them included this month.

Steamed Castella: Custard Cream

By far one of my favorite items this month! This cake was so soft and nice. The custard flavor was light and oh-so-good. This was like eating a custard-flavored cloud.

Stick Financier: Lemon Tea

I’ve tried several Stick Financiers and I have enjoyed them all. This one was pretty good. I’m not big on tea-flavored items but I think the lemon helped to offset the tea flavor.

Earl Grey Hojicha Tea

As a non-tea drinker, I have a hard time reviewing tea. This one was okay.

Tokyo Galette Des Rois Caramel

I loved this little cake. The caramel cream filling complemented the outer cake perfectly.

I hope you enjoyed my review of the September 2023 Bokksu. Have you tried Bokksu?
