It has been five years since I decided to focus on reading all of the books on my physical TBR. It’s so easy to be pulled away from books on the shelf in favor of those shiny newly published books. I do continue to buy new books and often do read them first. However, I feel like I have done a good job of whittling down my large TBR into something more manageable. Each month I read several books and do my best to limit the number of new books coming in. It’s time for my TBR update: year five to see just how much progress I have made from last year.
TBR update: year five
The read & reference shelf
As the name suggests, this shelf holds some of my read books. Thankfully, there are no unread books on this shelf.

The favorites shelf
This shelf houses several of my favorite series. I would need a much bigger shelf to put all my favorites in one spot.

As you can see, there aren’t that many unread books on this shelf. I have made quite a dent on this shelf and should have the remaining book read next year. Of course, to tackle the two books on the top of the pile, I will have to accelerate my Japanese reading skills.
The mostly read shelf
The vast majority of the books here I have already read. This shelf also includes a number of my favorite series.

The unread book pile is relatively small. Half of those books I got within the last year, and the others are series I have partially read for a while and hope to finish at some point. The giant book on the bottom of the pile has been on my shelf for a few years now and while I want to read it, the font is almost too small to deal with.
The active TBR shelf
This shelf holds many of the series I am actively reading, along with some books I plan to read soon. Needless to say, there are a lot of unread books on this shelf.

Between the book series I am actively reading and all my recent purchases, there are quite a few unread books on this shelf. There were so many I had to make two piles. I feel confident that most of these will be read in the next year.
As it sits, I have 143 unread physical books. While I do have quite a few unread ebooks and audiobooks, they are not as easy to show off. With luck, I will have all of these books read in the next 12 months.
I hope you enjoyed my TBR update: year five. How is your TBR looking?

Hello Sarah! The way you clutter your books is way way more organized than how I do with my life! Haha kidding. But your commitment to mangas is totally admirable! 📚
Thank you.
I love the way you organized your books! I also have a “read” bookshelf and a Tbr pile. My goal for next year get my tbr number under control! It’s not too bad but I’m scared to count it.
Thank you. Separating the read books from the unread ones makes it a bit easier to keep track of things.
Your amount of books makes me feel relatively good about my own pile. XD I’ve been diligently working on it this past year (aiming to read 80 books from the TBR pile, currently at 81% of that goal) and made it much reduced.
Well done working through your unread books.
Remarkable book collection! I always promise not to buy more books as my shelves are full, but I just can’t resist. 😀
Thank you. Not buying books is a challenge.
Thanks for a lovely tour through your bookshelves. You sure have a lot of books! Great collection 🙂
Thank you.
I love how you organize your books and your goals with this post! Cheers to reading more in 24.
Thank you. Keeping organized like this helps a ton keeping track of everything.
