November 2019 Tokyo Treat

Hojicha Kit Kats

I am not a tea drinker. Tea has never been that appealing to me, so anything that is tea flavored I’m kind of hesitant to try. These Kit Kats were great! I was really surprised by how much I liked them. I can’t quite explain what they taste like, but I guess it was a spiced tea flavor. I’m not sure. But what I do know is that I really enjoyed these. If this is what tea is supposed to taste like then maybe I should start drinking it.

Apple Coca-Cola

I really enjoyed this. Honestly, I wasn`t sure what to expect. I’ve tried a few special flavors of Coke before but never enjoyed them. This one has a very gentle apple flavor to it. I do have to say that the Japanese Coca-Cola is far less sweet and acrid compared to American Coke, which was really nice.

Matcha Sandwich Cookies

These were fantastic. Though the flavor wasn’t overly strong, I couldn’t help but gobble them down. It was as though the cookies had received a gentle kiss from the matcha. I love how they aren’t overly sweet like most cookies.

Anpanman Apple Gummies

The flavor of the gummies was nowhere near as strong as I thought they would be given how strong they smelled of apples. Still an interesting little candy.

Constellation Chocolate Cookie

This cookie was fairly simple in flavor, with a chocolate top and a cracker-like bottom to it. Even so, it was a nice little treat. The chocolate isn’t very sweet, which actually works well.

Atsugi Luxury Potato Sea Urchin Flavor Chips

This was the one item I was looking forward to the most when I ordered this box. I have tried a few different unique chip and cracker flavors before this, but I was very curious about what a sea urchin tastes like. While I can’t quite describe the flavor, I really enjoyed these chips. If I could get another bag at some point, I would happily eat them.

Chocolate Pie

Such a great little treat. The outside was crunchy and flakey, with a slight chocolate taste to it. The dark chocolate filling was nice and smooth, and I don’t even like dark chocolate. A dusting of salt on the outside really helped to compliment the flavors.

Porickey Brown Sugar Flavor

Similar to pocky in a way, these were alright. I wasn’t the biggest fan of the flavor of these, but still quite interesting.

Chocolate Dorayaki

They were so good! Tiny pancakes with chocolate cream sandwiched between them, what’s not to like? I will say, that the chocolate did overpower the pancake flavor a bit, but I can’t even fault it for that, because the chocolate was so dang good.

Corn Potage Snack

This is it, the best snack of them all. These corn puffs melted in my mouth and the sweet corn flavor was perfect. The first bite brought a smile to my face and I couldn’t help but sink contently back into my chair. If I could get a Tokyo Treat box containing nothing but these then I would be so happy.

Potato Snack Corn Potage

I loved this! It’s like a giant potato cracker that tastes like really sweet corn. It blew me away. I expected to catch some of the potato flavor, but all that I tasted was the corn, but that was fine because it was perfect.

Green Apples in a Bag

I’ve seen these candies in several videos about Japan that I have watched and they left me curious. So, it was a pleasant surprise to see them in this box. They are like really firm gummies. I can’t say that the apple flavor was very strong, but I really enjoyed these.

Mochi Choco

I saved this one for last because I was certain that I would love it. While I did enjoy it, I felt that the chocolate coating on it almost ruined the chewy texture of the mochi.

This one was a bit strange, and that was mostly due to the edible paper that was wrapped around this snack. It’s such a strange texture to get through before reaching the treat. This was supposed to be peach flavored but I tasted nothing of the sort. The lack of peach flavor left me disappointed.

Doki Doki Fishing DIY Kit

Candy is great, but making your candy? Even better! These little grape-flavored fish-shaped candies were great. Really my only complaint was that they were hard to chew off of the string. If I had something similar to this in the future I would skip the string part and just make the candies. Tasty and a fun experiment in candy making.

Takoyaki Umaibo

If you don’t know what Takoyaki is, it’s fried dough balls filled with octopus. That may sound weird, but it’s a very popular dish in Japan. Since I’ve never tasted octopus before, I wasn’t sure what to expect. This snack was extremely crunchy but then somewhat melted in your mouth once you started to chew. I still can’t quite figure out how to describe the flavor. If I had to guess it was sort of fish-like with a peppery hint to it. I did like this one but didn’t love it.

Brown Sugar Bar

I`m still not sure what to think of this. It was good, but the texture was a bit strange. It was crunchy, crumbly but also melted in my mouth. The flavor was alright but I don’t think it complimented the base treat very well.

November 2019 Tokyo Treat was quite the experience. I loved the flavor range of the treats, covering everything from sweet to savory, with crunchy to soft textures. I would absolutely recommend you giving this subscription box a try. Have you ever tried Tokyo Treat before?
