My Review:
After feeling like this series needed something to mix it up a bit after Volume 3, I was happy to see that exactly that happened in this volume.
Riko and Musubi have settled into a good routine, though erratic moments continue because that’s life with cats.
However, with a visit from the Great Saga, aka Obayashi from the pet store, Riko finds herself on the cusp of a new quest, one that will shake things up if she accepts and completes it. Riko, being the gamer that she is, accepts the quest to expand her party. It is time to acquire a second cat!
Sometimes, I find the game references annoying, and other times it suits the story. In this case, I enjoyed this quirky way that Riko looks at the world.
Navigating the world of cat adoption is an entirely new experience for Riko, and it comes with a mix of disappointment and success. But Riko isn’t one to let setbacks stop her from completing a quest, and her determination wins out in the end.
As expected, introducing a new cat into the house isn’t as simple as Riko may think. However, thanks to advice from Obayashi, she does her best to ease the cats into the situation.
We get to see just how different Musubi and Sorobo are. They are practically night and day from each other. And yet, those differences make them quite compatible and create quite a fun dynamic between them.
Riko now has her hands quite full between work, gaming, and two cats. Yet, she can also find time for new things to try, some of which are quite amusing.
The mini chapter with Musubi and Sorobo talking were quite a fun addition, not all that dissimilar to those with just Musubi in previous volumes.
Overall, this was a fun and quick read. We see Riko, Musubi, and, to a smaller extent, Soboro, pushed outside of their comfort zones and learn to adapt to a new way of life. I look forward to continuing this series and see what comes next for this trio.
I hope you enjoyed my review of Cat + Gamer Vol 4. Have you read this book?
