February 2025 Reading Wrap-up

Despite picking out a large February TBR, as the month started, I didn’t think I would get through that many books. However, as the days went on, my insatiable hunger for books kept me reading day after day. Between numerous library books and some of my own books, I got through a surprising number of books during the month, hitting nearly every book I had put on my TBR plus some extras. My February 2025 reading wrap-up goes over the many books I read during the month and shares my brief thoughts on them.

February 2025 Reading Wrap-up

The Lost Queen by Signe Pike

I first listened to this audiobook two years ago (ironically enough in February as well) and absolutely loved it. Continuing the series is a goal of mine, so I decided to listen to it again to reacquaint myself with the story. As with the first time, I loved this book.

Getting to experience Languoreth’s life from childhood to adulthood, watching her mature and try to find the right balance between the old ways (which she was raised with) and the new Christian ways. Add her in twin brother Lailoken, and their incredibly strong and deep bond, which saves her as much as getting her in trouble throughout. Mix in whispers of war, betrayal, forbidden love, court intrigue, and a touch of magic, and this book is amazing. Pike does a fantastic job of raw emotion into the story and the narrator brings those feelings to life.

I cannot wait to finally continue with the rest of the series.

Cat + Gamer Vol 6 by Wataru Nadatani

This was a pretty good volume, though I feel that the focus has shifted away from gaming and more onto the cats. This isn’t a problem per se, but I feel as though the earlier volumes had a better balance of the two things. I still enjoyed this book and look forward to the next volume.

How To Keep House While Drowning by K.C. Davis

I picked this book up on a bit of a whim. It’s a quick read and does a great job of sharing how to keep up with your house and various chores when life feels overwhelming. It’s especially useful for those who have ADHD and other neurodivergent types.

She Who Became The Sun by Shelley Parker-Chan

I listened to the audiobook of this and I loved it. The development of the story and Zhu’s journey from a poor malnourished kid to this strong well-respected warrior was addictive.

However, there were times when I couldn’t keep track of who was who and what was happening. I believe this is because keeping track of names is much more difficult when only hearing them versus seeing them written on a page. I will be reading the second book in the duology soon because I need to know what happens next.

Yona of the Dawn Vol 43 by Mizuho Kusanagi

Wow, this was quite an experience. I honestly don’t know what to say because it will absolutely be spoilers for the series. All I know if I need to next volume ASAP and I am both looking forward to and dreading the end of this series which is quickly approaching.

Adult Survivors of Toxic Family Members by Sherrie Campbell

I picked up this book after seeing another blogger talk about it.

This is one of those books where it feels weird to say I enjoyed reading it, purely because of the subject matter. However, I felt so light and utterly validated with my decision to go no-contact with my toxic parents after reading this. Granted I already knew it was the right decision to make years ago, but this book made it all make sense and I felt even more justified.

If you have dealt with toxic family members, either directly or indirectly, I highly recommend reading this book.

Library Wars Vol 2 by Kiiro Yumi

I enjoyed this volume quite a bit. There is a decent amount of action, starting fairly quickly into the story, and once again Kasahara shows she has a lot to learn, especially learning patience and to not rush into every situation. However, she’s clearly passionate about her duties and I believe she will become less chaotic as time goes on.

We also get to see some history of the library and the library’s commander. There’s some tension between Tezuka and Dojo but that’s not entirely surprising given what happened.

Komi Can’t Communicate Vol 28 by Tomohito Oda

After struggling with the last few volumes in the series, I wasn’t sure what to expect with this one. However, I was pleasantly surprised by how much I enjoyed Volume 28.

We get to see Tadano and Komi’s dad hanging out again and it was wonderful to see them bonding but of course, it got a little crazy at the end and that trickled throughout the rest of the volume. There is also a good amount of highlighting how much the various characters have grown and changed since the beginning.

The ending was quite funny and it’s made me once again excited to continue with this series, which is ending soon.

Spy x Family Vol 7 by Tatsuya Endo

I loved this volume. Bond’s chapter and the reason behind what he does was so amusing. However, I think my favorite part of this volume is the chapter about Damian and his friend’s adventure with Mister Green. This put the boys in a situation that was very out of character for them but in the end, showed that despite their upbringing they are truly boys at heart and it was nice to see them in such a relaxed manner.

I look forward to getting to the rest of this series soon.

Fly Me To The Moon Vol 7 by Kenjiro Hata

This was a fun read. I always enjoy this series especially the many cute interactions between Nasa and Tsukasa. We learn more about Nasa’s past, especially his previous job and that plays a role in this volume. We also get to see how Tsukasa copes with being alone while Nasa is busy at work.

Tsukasa’s intensity over movies is always amusing. she is so passionate about it and wants to share her love of media with Nasa, though he doesn’t quite get into it the way she does. There were several moments throughout where I found myself laughing, especially when a particular character showed up at the bathhouse.

As always the mini bonus chapter at the end is worth reading.

Demon Slayer: Kimestu no Yaiba Vol 7 by Koyoharu Gotouge

It’s been long enough since last reading the previous volume that I felt quite lost. While I did enjoy this book I so feel like I need to restart the series and read the books consistently so I can keep up with the story.

Nuclear War: A Scenario by Annie Jacobsen

Another book I picked up on a whim.

This was an eye-opening book that breaks down how quickly nuclear war can not only start but escalate in a scenario where North Korea makes the first move. Jacobsen does a good job of showing the domino effect over the course of the first 24 minutes after an ICBM is launched, up to it impacting the United States, all of the decisions and actions that are required of the military and especially the president, and the extremely short time frame that that all needs to happen in.

She also talks about the similar response of other countries, but mostly Russia. It highlights how in as little time as an hour, the world can be vastly changed forever. I highly recommend everyone read this.

Horimiya Vol 6 by HERO

This was another great continuation of the story. There were numerous hilarious moments, especially when Miyamura and Sengoku were trying to get out of swimming. I also liked the small tidbits of the past along with ways that the various relationships and friendships affect other characters.

There is also a moment or two where I feel that it’s hinting at things to come, but who knows if those things will turn out how I think they will or not.

Ouran High School Host Club Vol 7 by Bisco Hatori

Every time I pick up a volume from this series I honestly question what the heck is going on. The antics of the host club get exponentially crazier each time and yet, despite my confusion at times, I find myself thoroughly enjoying this zany collection of characters and the wild things they get into.

I liked learning more about Honey’s family and in turn a bit more about Mori and his family. I look forward to continuing with this series and seeing what the club will get up to next.
