October 2020 goals and September review

Can you believe that October is here already? I don’t know about you, but it seems like the last few months have really flown by. Perhaps that is because we are now in autumn, which is my favorite season. Or perhaps it’s because I have been so busy lately that the days have been zooming by. Either way, it’s a new month and that means it’s time to assess my monthly goals, make any necessary adjustments, and get busy setting my October 2020 goals. If you haven’t started setting monthly goals, I highly recommend doing so. They really help you keep on track and sharing them with others helps with accountability as well. Before we get into October’s goals, let’s take a moment to go over how well I did with September’s goals.

September goals review

It’s no surprise that September was a busy month. In fact, I knew it would be crazy but I still set a ton of goals knowing that I would be able to hit most if not all of them. Let’s see how well I did with all those goals.

Life goals

  • Read at least 10 books. I missed it by this much! Check out what I read in September.
  • Watch 1 season of a show. Yes, I watched 1 season of Star Wars: The Clone Wars. On top of this, I watched 5 episodes of Fruits Basket, 6 episodes of Sword Art Online Alicization: War of Underworld,  and 2 episodes of The Misfit of Demon King Academy.
  • Workout every day. Nope. For the first half of the month, I was so busy that trying to find time to squeeze in a workout seemed almost impossible. However, I was busy with lots of physical work so in a way I still got exercise in. In the second half of the month, I did better at getting in a workout every day, even if some of them were short. I also walked for an hour every day.
  • Sell some items. Yes, I had some pretty good success with this and got rid of a number of items.
  • Finish deep cleaning the home. Yes. The house is now fully cleaned and all of the areas I needed to attend to have been organized as well.
  • Declutter. I didn’t find much this month, but even a couple of items are worth the effort.
  • Continue winter prep. Most of this consisted of outside work this month, namely getting the garden tended to and cleaning out and organizing the shed and under the deck storage. So, I made good progress.
  • Try a new recipe. I tried several new recipes this month and enjoyed every single one of them. One I spent a lot of time modifying to be perfect was the zucchini bread recipe.

Japanese goals

  • Spend 1 hour on listening and speaking Japanese. No, I missed a few days when things were really busy.
  • Spend 30 minutes on Japanese writing and reading. Like above, I missed a few days when there was a lot going on.
  • Learn 10 Kanji. Yes, I did work on 10 Kanji. A couple I’m still working on fully memorizing, but overall I am happy with my progress.

Writing goals

  • Continue to work on my July Camp NaNoWriMo project. I only got a single chapter rewritten, but it’s better than nothing.
  • Journal every day. So close! I missed one day guys. One day!
  • Finish taking a writing course. Yes, I made plenty of notes along the way, so it took a while to get through the remainder of the material but I am glad I did.
  • Start prep for NaNoWriMo. Applying what I learned from the course and some writing craft books I have recently read, I have got a pretty good start at outlining this project and working on character sheets and worldbuilding.

Gardening goals

  • Weed the garden regularly. Regularly, no. But I did do a few rounds of weeding. When I pulled all the garden plants mid-month I gave it a thorough weeding.
  • Harvest the garden. Yes, I spent a good amount of time at the beginning of the month harvesting as much as I could.

Blogging goals

  • Work on September & October’s posts. I put a pretty good dent in October’s posts while also finishing the last of September’s posts.
  • Update 2 blog posts. That and more. I know I updated 7 posts for sure, and there may have been more than that but I lost count.
  • Create new pin images. Yes, I tried to make some regularly throughout the month so I never ran out of them.
  • Take a blogging course. The one goal I completely failed at. I didn’t even think about doing this.

October 2020 goals

It’s been ridiculously busy the last few months, so as a reward for all of my hard work, I am cutting back on my goals this month. Partially because many of them have been completed over the summer but mostly because I deserve a break. There are still a number of goals I will be working on this month or I will become a complete couch potato with nothing to keep me motivated.

Life goals

  • Read at least 5 books. I’m cutting back on the number of books I plan to read this month because I am hoping to get through a couple of longer books.
  • Watch 1 season of a show. As always, I like to throw in a fun goal each month. Watching TV is a good way to relax after a busy day and helps to whittle down my to-be-watched list.
  • Workout every day. After partially failing at this last month, I am ready to get back into this full time.
  • Continue winter prep. This will be an ongoing goal for the next couple of months. Though it may not feel like it right now, winter is not far away, so we need to get ready for it.
  • Try a new recipe. I love trying new recipes, but over the last few months, I have fallen out of the habit. This month I would like to try at least one new recipe.

Japanese goals

  • Spend 30 minutes on listening and speaking Japanese. This is a long-term goal. I know that keeping up with this daily every month will help me learn and retain this language better.
  • Spend 30 minutes on Japanese writing and reading. This goes hand in hand with the above. While it’s good to be able to speak and listen to Japanese, it’s also important to learn how to read and write it.
  • Learn 10 Kanji. With thousands of Kanji to learn, I plan to learn a few every month so that I can slowly build up my knowledge of them without overwhelming myself.

Writing goals

  • Journal every day. I will once again be trying to stick to this.
  • Continue prep for NaNoWriMo. NaNoWriMo is only a month away, so I will be working hard to get as much prep work done as I can to make the 30-day writing challenge go smoothly.

Blogging goals

  • Work on October & November’s posts. I have quite a few of October’s posts ready, so I will be working on finishing those and then shifting my focus to November’s posts.
  • Create new pin images. Another constant task of blogging is creating pin imagines. I need to make new pins for older posts while keeping up with making them for new posts.

Those are my goals for October 2020. While I still have a decent amount to keep me occupied, it will be nice to have a more relaxed month. What are your goals for October?

  1. Congratulations on a great month! We rarely (if ever) hit all our goals (the point is to stretch ourselves) but it looks like you did an amazing job in working y our way through the majority of them. I’m sure you’ll have similar or even better results in October!

    1. Thank you. I agree with trying to stretch yourself with goals. I don’t always hit them all but I am always happy with what I do get done.
