The TBR I had picked out for October was fairly ambitious. Despite that, and how busy the month ended up being, I was able to get through quite a few of those books plus several library loans. This October 2024 reading wrap-up goes over the books I read during the month and my thoughts on them.
October 2024 Reading Wrap-up

Cat + Gamer Vol 2 by Wataru Nadatani
Such a fun read. Riko and Musubi have been leveling up their lives but Riko still has plenty of skills to acquire in order to maximize her pet ownership. Cannot wait to read more of this series.

Cat + Gamer Vol 3 by Wataru Nadatani
As Riko continues to attempt to level up Musubi, things slow down a bit, and I feel like this book falters. Perhaps it’s because it’s been a lot of the same so far and it’s feeling a bit repetitive. It’s still an enjoyable read but lacks something that the previous volumes had.

Cat + Gamer Vol 4 by Wataru Nadatani
Riko has decided to take on a new challenge: getting a second cat! This does not go entirely as planned but her gaming skills are there to ensure victory in the end.
I enjoyed watching the new addition to the party adjust to life with Riko and Musubi.

Cat + Gamer Vol 5 by Wataru Nadatani
With her party now consisting of 2 cats, Riko is settling into a new routine of life. There are ups and downs, but overall, she’s handling it well.
This one had several highly amusing moments and I cannot wait for the next volume to release so I can read more of their adventures.

The Horse by Timothy C. Winegard
I enjoyed this book immensely. While horses have always been something I have been interested in, I was honestly surprised by how much I learned from this book. It’s clear that this was well-researched and the author cared about the subject.
This is as much a book about horses, as it is about how their domestication changed humanity. From advancements in farming to the ability to travel to and conquer faraway lands, and so much more, the horse truly changed what we could accomplish and thus our future. I highly recommend this book.

Death Comes At Christmas – edited by Marie O’Regan & Paul Kane
I was fortunate to get an ARC of this book in exchange for an honest review
This collection of short stories was truly enjoyable. They all revolved around the themes of death/murder and Christmas, yet each was unique in its own way. From a true crime based horror moment, to a ‘sequel’ of a well-established Christmas classic, to a well-planned murder at a bookstore Christmas party, there were so many fantastic stories to enjoy.

Kimi ni Todoke: From Me To You: Soulmate Vol 3 by Karuho Shiina
The final volume in this trilogy and it was fantastic. While I felt that the second volume had lost its way, this one brought the story back and wonderful job of wrapping up Kurumi and Eiji’s love story.
While I do wish this sequel series was a bit longer, I feel like it was done well in such a short format.

Spy x Family Vol 6 by Tatsuya Endo
I really enjoyed this book. The tennis tournament was entertaining and over the top. It certainly pushes Twilight and Nightfall in unexpected ways to work together to accomplish their mission.

Fly Me To The Moon Vol 6 by Kenjiro Hata
Another enjoyable volume in this series. The introduction of Ginga brings on some hilarious moments. He adds some extra flavor to the story and we get to learn a bit more about Nasa and his family. This leads to meeting another new character Toast.
To top it off, we get to watch the couple visit an amusement park but there is a surprise meeting there that leads to so much fun. I cannot wait to continue this series.

Demon Slayer: Kimestu no Yaiba Vol 6 by Koyoharu Gotouge
This was an enjoyable volume. We get to learn more about the Demon Slayer Corp and meet the Hashira. We also see Tanjiro, Nezuko, and all of the Hashira tested in an unexpected way.
I look forward to continuing with this series.

Urusei Yatsura Vol 2 by Rumiko Takahashi
This omnibus contains volumes 3 & 4 of the series.
Much like the first omnibus, this story is extremely strange and yet oddly addicting. I honestly don’t know what to say about it, but I will be continuing this series soon.
