The fourth week of NaNoWriMo has come to an end. This last week truly flew by in no time and I can see the finish line of this writing challenge not far away. Though I have already hit the 50000-word mark to secure my win, that doesn’t mean that I am done writing. There is still a ton of work to do on this novel, including a major revamp of the outline, which in turn will force me to rewrite several chapters, scrap some others and add plenty of new ones. I’m up for the challenge, even though I know a lot of that work will extend well past NaNoWriMo. This NaNoWriMo 2020 week 4 update will go over how I did this week.
NaNoWriMo 2020 week 4 update
This was an incredibly busy day. I had a to-list a mile long and a weekend to get it all done. Needless to say, I took this day off from writing. I figured I had already hit the 50000-word mark, so this tiny break from writing would be acceptable. The good news is, I got the vast majority of my to-do list done this day.
Another busy day as I was worked on finishing my to-do list. There wasn’t much to do this day, but I also spent quite a bit of time baking so I would have lots of snacks to enjoy for the week ahead. In the evening I did sit down to do a bit of writing. It’s not much but I added 934 words.
This was the big day I had been waiting and preparing for. The release of World of Warcraft: Shadowlands! I had no idea if I would get any writing done this day. After all, my excitement was at it’s highest and all I wanted to do was sit in-game until launch. However, since the launch wasn’t until 6 pm EST, I had a lot of time to wait, plus I had some inspiration to write a chapter I had skipped earlier. So away I went and managed to write 842 words.
I’ll be honest, I didn’t even think about writing this day. I had a character to level and more of Shadowlands to explore. The entire day was spent gaming and I absolutely loved it. No words were written but I had tons of fun.
I woke up early this day to get in some good Shadowlands time before the family woke up, only to be thwarted by a patch (that’s content that needs to be downloaded before I can play for the non-gamers out there). So, I switched to blog work while the patch downloaded and knocked out a few minor tasks that I wanted to get done. Then it was Shadowlands time and before I knew it, I had hit level 60! There is still much of the game to explore but knowing I have hit the maximum level and can start all of the big grinds, like reputation, is oddly exciting.
I did make time in the evening to get some writing done. I’ll be honest, experiencing the world and story of Shadowlands has reignited my desire to write. So I dove back into my story and wrote 1498 words.
This day was unexpectedly busy. I had thought I would spend the vast majority of it playing World of Warcraft, but before I knew it I was running around getting various tasks done. Eventually, I sat down to see if any writing could happen and I managed to knock out 585 words. After that, I got busy gaming.
I thought about writing this day and then it didn’t happen. It would have been nice to do some writing but I’m not mad that I didn’t. Besides, I had pretty much written off this week because of World of Warcraft so the fact that I did any writing is amazing.
This brings my word count total to 54725. Overall, I am pleased with this week’s progress. Though I didn’t write much, I was able to enjoy some gaming time, which I haven’t done in a while.
I hope you enjoyed my NaNoWriMo 2020 week 4 update. How is your writing going this month?
