Have you seen those posts going around where people break down the A to Z of themselves? Well, I have seen quite a few of them, such as the one Cornish Maid did not long ago. Thus, I have decided to do it myself. Honestly, posts like this I would normally avoid, because I have a hard time talking about myself, but I also want to get out of my comfort zone whenever possible. Thus, I decided to give it a try. This is just a fun way to share more about myself. So let’s get to know me from A to Z! You may just learn something new about me.
Get to know me from A To Z
A is for… Anxiety. I have dealt with anxiety for over half of my life. It has stopped me from doing many things, however, I am taking steps this year to fight back and reclaim my life. It doesn’t always work out. I still have my bad days, but it is getting better.
B is for… Books. I love books. I love buying them, placing them on the shelf, and maybe, eventually even reading them. Yes, I do have that problem where I buy books faster than I can read them, so my to-be-read list has gotten a bit out of hand. However, I am making an effort this year to work start reading regularly again and slowly chip away at all of those unread books.
C is for… Cooking. This is something I never really enjoyed growing up. In fact, it was only in the last few years that I learned to cook. Now I really enjoy trying out new recipes, however, they don’t always work out. There are times when I will try to modify the recipe because it is good but not great. However, there are also times when I abandon trying it again because it would take too much effort to make it edible.
D is for… Duncan. My husband. He keeps me going when I want to give up. He has a knack for terrible puns – something he gets from his dad. There are times when he frustrates me, and I am sure I do the same for him, but I am grateful every day that he is in my life.
E is for… Exercise. This is something new in my life and I’m still getting the hang of it. I was very active as a child, despite being accident-prone. However, as an adult, I haven’t been as active as I should be.
F is for… Fear. I was raised to be afraid of everyone and everything. It has been a hard habit to break and even to this day, I find myself fearing the unknown, or something happening in my life.
G is for… Garden. I have always loved to garden and it’s something I look forward to every year. It can be a challenge to grow vegetables where I live since the winters are long and the summers are short and cold. However, I have found a number of plants that do well and focus on those. Luckily, they are things we love to eat, so having an abundance of them is always great.
H is for… Horses. My second favorite animal. I was the typical girl who fell in love with horses at an early age. However, I never really grew out of that love. Some of my best memories are riding a horse with my best friend Kristin. Going to the barn made the annoyance of high school and the stress of life melt away.
I is for… Insects. Specifically grasshoppers. I really enjoy seeing insects out and about. They have such a large variety of colors, shapes, and purposes. However, it’s grasshoppers that really have my heart. I would say some of it has to do with the fact that my uncle calls me Grasshopper. But the insect itself I find to be of interest as well. Whenever I see a grasshopper, I know it will be a good day.
J is for… Jacob. My son. He’s the perfect mix of my husband and myself. He loves dinosaurs, soccer, and LEGO. He is always there to give me a hug, tell me about his day, or just sit with me. I am so lucky to have him.
K is for… Kristin. My best friend and the reason I survived high school. I still remember the day we met on the first day of grade nine, two awkward kids trying to avoid everyone else and by doing so we found each other. We had tons of great adventures together and some pretty boring moments too – like all those phone calls where we said nothing but it was just what we needed. We live far away from each other but our friendship is still strong after all of these years. She encouraged me to start this blog and has a blog of her own – go and check out Tales From Home!
L is for… Laziness. Something I have let rule my life for far too long now. But that is why I am trying to make changes in my life.
M is for… Manga. Back in college, many years ago, a classmate introduced me to manga. This was not long after I had first come to know and love anime. I have slowly been expanding my manga collection and enjoying reading each volume. For those series that have been turned into anime, the manga is an expanded look at the story.
N is for… Notebooks. I absolutely love notebooks. I can never have enough of them and yet so many of them have gone unused for years. I just can’t help but look at notebooks every time I’m in the stores. Imagining what I will use them for, and then remind myself that I already have so many ones at home. It’s hard to not get them. However, I am getting better at leaving them in the store where someone else who may actually need them can buy them.
O is for… Orange. No, I don’t love the color. However, there is a manga series called Orange and it is absolutely phenomenal. I would put it in my top five manga series. It has been adapted into an anime series. Okay, probably not the best use of this letter, but honestly, some of them are hard to think of.
P is for… Pens. What good is a notebook obsession if you don’t have the pens to go with them? I am always on the lookout for the next great pen. There are so many different kinds of pens out there, but not all of them are what I am looking for. My current favorite is the Zebra Sarasa Porous Pen.
Q is for… Quiet. I am a quiet person, at least until I get to know you. Then I can be quite talkative – under the right conditions.
R is for… Rhinoceros. My favorite animal. It is my dream to go to Africa one day and see rhinos in their natural habitat. However, I worry that this will not happen because of their numbers being reduced so quickly through poaching. I have seen rhinos in zoos and I am grateful to be able to get even that close to one. I also have a pretty good-sized rhino collection, including stuffed and plastic rhinos.
S is for… Star Wars. I love these movies, TV series, toys, and books (old and new series – but the older ones are my favorite). Honestly, I just can’t get enough of it. I have been an avid fan since they rereleased the original trilogy in theatres. Now, we make a habit of seeing new movies on opening day. I met a lot of friends because of my love of Star Wars and I couldn’t imagine my life without it. However, I would give my left arm to have Disney properly finish The Clone Wars series.
T is for… T-Shirts. I love them, I wear them every day and I have way too many of them. It’s not my fault they keep coming out with all these awesome graphic tees that I absolutely need in my life. Most of them are Star Wars, however, I also have a growing number of anime-related shirts, like the two Princess Mononoke ones.
U is for… Umbrellas. I don’t use them, but honestly, I am having a hard time coming up with something that starts with ‘U’ for this.
V is for… Vegetables. I grow them, I eat them, and they are the only word that starts with ‘V’ that I could think of.
W is for… World of Warcraft. I have been playing this game for most of the last 15 years. Although I have taken breaks here and there, it is the game I keep coming back to. I always get excited whenever a new expansion pack is coming out. I own all of the books, a number of figures, and a few other pieces. It is my second favorite fandom – with Star Wars being the first.
Fun fact: my husband proposed to me in-game.
X is for… X-Ray. Being an accident-prone kid, I found myself making a number of trips to the doctor or hospital to have some injury checked out. Even as recently as a few years ago, I was getting x-rays done. If I have to guess, I would say that I have likely had upwards of 15 x-rays done. So far, I have managed to avoid breaking any bones and all of those x-rays were just to check things out.
Y is for… Your Name. The best anime movie ever. I got tickets to see it in the theatre for the North American release and was so excited about it. But then we got hit with a massive amount of freezing rain that lasted three days and I wasn’t able to go. When I was finally able to see it, I knew I had found a new favorite. I have been listening to the soundtrack in my truck for the last year and a half. My husband thinks I’m obsessed with it, and he’s not wrong.
Z is for… Zoos. I enjoy going to zoos, as they allow me to see animals I might not otherwise get a chance to see unless it was during a nature documentary.
